Controversy surrounds Klaus' Win

19th November: by Craig

Skins eligibility criteria caused controversy in the skins calculations, with initial results done excluding both Adam and Matthew. A protest was lodged by Klaus to the founding members who deliberated and determined that in fact Matthew was eligible but Adam remained ineligible. This had significant ramification on the results with Klaus finally being declared the winner.

An urgent motion has been put forward for the AGM to clarify this arbitrary decision making process once and for all.

Despite this controversy, the golf matched the weather (hot!!) with Steve Brown winning the B grade championship and PeterD losing on countback in A grade despite a sensational +3 round.

Corrections:

On the 5/11/2011 a headline was published saying 5 players can win the skins. Klaus is boldly claiming that it is in fact incorrect as now 6 players can win the skins.

Five players can win the Skins

5th November:

PeterH has sneaked into the lead before taking a rest day for the next round while visiting Greg Norman and Fred Couples.

There are 36 skins remaining and the 2011 leaderboard is very tight; we have five players within 8 skins from the lead.

Craig Takes the Hunter Valley Round

22nd October:

The 2011 Hunter Valley Round was played at the Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club attached to the Lovedale Crown Plaza Hotel.

Stix and Craig played consistently well for the round and Craig defeated PeterD by one skin to retain the Skins Trophy and take his 4th win of the year.

This time there was no aggravation as Rob and Ahmad again boycotted the end of round function and presentation. Both scored zero skins.

Craig's Theory Proven

8th October:

Craig, once again, proved his theory that resting from golf will produce a good score. This time it was good enough to take the Skins Trophy and move up the 2011 leader board: 8 skins from the top.

No Countback Required

27th August:

This was the Riverside Oaks round and all players struggled to make a good score. Stix triumphs after reluctant start!

[Presentation 2011Jul16a]
Trophy presentation
16th July: by Craig

Despite grumbling prior to leaving the comfort of his dry garage, Stix reluctantly agreed to play golf in drizzling rain. And lucky he did, storming to a great win.

Playing in the professional group with PeterD and Klaus, he scored 38 points. But it did not stop there. Klaus played even better scoring a PB of 85 strokes and 42 points to take out the B grade North Turramurra title. Great effort from the pro group.

Unfortunately the amateur group was less impressive, although Dave started well and faded whilst Elliot left his run until the 15th hole with a great par but alas it was all too late.

Individual Scores
[Name (hcap) Stableford points Skins]:
Birdies:

6th (par 3): PeterD chip in.

Wildlife Sighting:

Wallaby on the 11th by the pro group.

Catering:

Klaus. Another fine effort with homemade Salsa. Excellent. Next time by Riverside Oaks.

Weather:

Drizzling rain clearing to a cool overcast day.

Maiden Win to Elliot

[Presentation 2011Jul02a]
Trophy presentation
2nd July:

Elliot played consistent and professional golf to take his first skins trophy. As you can see, his head was already somewhat top heavy. This was no guarantee that Klaus would be complementary on the drive home.

9th April:

The skins looked to be spread evenly until Klaus jumped to the lead to take his first skins trophy. We were close to disaster at the presentation when the nervous Klaus dropped the trophy.

At the post match interview Klaus credited his win to limiting himself to a maximum of 2 miracle shots during the round.

Interesting shot of the Day:

Stix had an unfortunate shot on the 8th with a duck being struck in the head causing a downward spiral flight path and possibly death. An eager photographer caught the scene soon after the sad incident (see the photograph below).

The event caused a sharp slump in form for the unfortunate Stix.

A memorial pond shot has been proposed but the response has been muted.

The big dipper.

Steve burgled his way to a big win.

26th February:

Steve dominated the round with his new official handicap of 32 (limited to 27 for the skins) and takes the championship lead.

Due to course modifications, the 8th hole was taken out of play and replaced by the temporary 14th hole. This reduced the par by two from 64 to 62 and 2 stableford points were deducted from all golflink scores. For simplicity the skins scores were calculated by the card.

Individual Scores
[Name (hcap) Stableford points Skins]:
[Presentation 2011Feb26a]

Confession:

the group of Elliot, Steve and PeterH mistakenly treated the the 12th as a par 3 and the 17th as a par 4 causing the loss of a possible 2 points.

Unfortunately, this caused Steve to lose the Nth Turramurra div 2 stableford competition. Elliot and PeterH merely lost 2 points.

As has been said: the blame is squarely on PeterH.

Birdies:

15th (par 4): Matthew.

Nearest to the pin (4th hole):

Longest drive (17th hole):

Interesting shot of the Day:

Interesting shot of the Day:

On the 11th hole, Klaus putted to less than 30cm from the cup. Unfortunately, he followed this with a forceful "tap-in" finishing over 4 metres from the cup.

Catering:

PeterD kindly stepped in to replace the absent Taylor and a fine job he did with a generous supply of beer, cheese and nibbles. Steve has volunteered to cater next time.

Proposed Rule Changes:
  1. Ahmad suggested that the remaining skins each week should be distributed to the Longest Drive and/or NTP winners. There was mixed reaction to this.
  2. PeterD suggested that the catering arrangements were stressful and not to his liking and the costs were too high for some players to bear. He placed the blame squarely on PeterH. The remaining golfers expressed comfort with the catering convention no matter what it is.
