2009 Skins Champion.

Presentation:

PeterH won the 2009 skins with 72 skins and 3 wins. The trophy was presented at the Xmas round by Stix.

Skins History

2009 Christmas Classic goes to Mario.

12th December:

This year the numbers were smaller than usual with six starters. The rules were set by Stix: 3 clubs, Driver, wedge (one only) and putter.

The Christmas Classic champion for 2009 is Mario with a score two shots better than his handicap. Stix dominated play early in the round but Mario proved to be more consistent and managed to win by 2 shots only.

The trophy was presented by 2008 winner: PeterD.

The NTP trophy went to Stix with a tee shot good enough to make a birdie. The trophy was presented by Kim, the 2008 winner.

The Bradman Award
(for the most attractive century of the day)

The Bradman was not awarded this year as all players were so skillful that NO centuries were scored.

Longest drive (18th hole):

the longest drive award went to PeterH on the 18th after all 6 players missed the fairway on the 17th. The trophy was augmented by two Titleist long carry balls with large dimples. Unfortunatley, the 2008 winner, Damien was not available to present the trophy.

Stix gets his 5th win in the final Skins of 2009.

5th December:

In a dominant performance Stix took the skins trophy for the 5th time this year and earned him second place in the 2009 championship.

Also, PeterD has achieved his goal for 2009 and made it to a single figure handicap.

Ahmad played his first skins round after qualifying, but the skins did not flow. He will need some advice at the Thursday BBQ from burglar Mario.

At Craigs suggestion, the playing order was determined by the number of skins won:

Today Kim found a new friend (pictured) behind the 7th tee after it was abandoned by foreign agents in a golf kart.

There was lots of tlc for Stewy Rabbit from hole 7 to 18: a ride in the golf bag, umbrella for shade, hand delivered water and hugs before each tee shot.

The adoption will be completed by special powers of DFAT head office in Camberra.

Unfortunately the distraction of Stewy caused Kim to forget to order the sniper hit on the players ahead of him in the skins championship and he fell back to 3rd place.

21st November:

PeterD makes it win number 6 at The Vintage.

7th November:

This round was the 4th annual trip to The Vintage in the Hunter Valley. As usual the course dominated the players with noone getting close to handicap score.

Kim with the only tee shot to hit the green. The distance to the pin was too great to be measured in metric or imperial.

Longest drive (18th hole):

PeterH with the only tee shot to hit the fairway. There was some grumbling from those in the forest with longer shots.

Interesting shots of the Day:

This is not an interesting shot however: PeterH won the 18th skin with a double bogie 6.

PeterD Wins It All.

24th October:

PeterD dominated proceedings this round by winning nearest-the-pin, longest drive, the Skins trophy and the Nth Turramurra Singles Stableford. He may have won the Ladies competition also, I did not check. All this while illegally uploading to YouTube with his new toy: the iPhone.

Interesting shots of the Day:

PeterH second shot on the 7th: after some safety discussions with Craig, a low recovery shot to the 150 metre marker post, then 90 degrees to the left, past the 8th green, stopping a few metres from the dam.

Mario blitzes the field.

10th October:
[Presentation 2009oct10a]

Mario, with a majestic performance playing perfectly to his handicap, blitzed the field with 11 skins. It was a totally dominating performance with Ryan the only other skins winner on the day. We expect the continued improvement will result in a handicap reduction for Mario in the very near future.

The legend of Mario�s influence on Stix�s game continues to build. This situation will be monitored over coming weeks.

PeterD with a 220 metre drive on the 18th after 7 not so good shots on the 17th (despite Ahmad�s plea for 1� long grass surrounded by dirt as fairway).

Mario�s shot on the 4th. Very low but judged to perfection.

26th September:

Kim won 5 skins a tight round with the skins distributed to 6 players.

Mario had the highest stableford score with a personal best 36 points justifying all the practice and lessons.

Stix takes the trophy from Craig on a countback.

29th August:

It was a big day for the skins competition with a record 8 players participating and two winners in the North Turramurra Stableford competitions: PeterD winning Division 1 and Stix winning Division 2.

The skins competition was decided on the last hole with Stix taking the trophy from Craig after a countback (probably not for the first time).

Interesting shots of the Day:

By Stix: a spectacular approach shot to the 18th green over the trees from the 17th fairway allowing him to par the hole and take the skins trophy on the last hole.

Catering:

Ryan catered this round and results were very impressive. He provided Nibbles, beer, four varieties of cheese, three types of biscuit and a d'Arenberg 2001 The Custodian grenache.

15th August:

After playing well to score 36 points, PeterD took the skins trophy for the 4th time in 2009. However, as you can see, he is not happy that the trophy was not delivered.

Interesting shots of the Day:

Stix claimed both shots of the day this round. The first was a high slice over a tree from the 8th tee to hit a golfer unreasonably walking between the 9th green and the 10th tee. Apparently he took it in good grace: we could not see any blood or limping.

The second was on the 18th tee: a solid strike with the driver, a loud crack from a tree branch followed by the ball flying straight up for 100 metres.

Catering:

The catering by Stix maintained the high standard set by Kim in the last round. He provided Nibbles, Coopers beer and a McLaren Vale 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Knot by Shingleback.

Ryan has volunteered to cater next time.

PeterH sneaks ahead of Kim.

1st August:

PeterH and Kim both scored 54's in stroke play but in the prestigious Skins competition PeterH has moved ahead by 5.

Royal North Turramurra G/C was in the best condition of the year with many long putts falling in.

Highlight of the day was the big rollup for this round with seven players.

The catering by Kim was excellent with beer, red wine and nibbles including cheese and fig paste. -> Next time it is Stix' turn.

PeterD wins on a second countback.

18th July:

Today's round was very close with 4 players tied on 3 skins at the end of the 12th. James was looking good for his first skins win but Stix and Peter stepped up the pace and dominated the last 6 holes of the match.

The order of the day was plugged balls with the worst being the ninth where there was much confusion about whose ball was whose and when they could be lifted. We penalised ourselves for slow play and split into a 3 and 2 again to avoid clogging up the whole course.

Interesting shots of the Day:

Highlight of the day was Peter's second to the 7th which pitched 8" short of the flag and rolled to within centimetres, almost netting him his first eagle but alas he had to suffice with a birdie.

Catering:

Catering was controversial with PeterD bringing ginger beer. A vote was taken on the acceptability of the catering with 4 votes in favour and 1 vote against. Stix remained unhappy with the situation and would like to see this clarified in the future.

Fine and sunny, a beautiful winters day.

4th July:

Kim defeated Craig by one skin with a par on the 17th hole.

Made by the Kookaburra at the BBQ. It was pure speed and accuracy.

was a joint effort sausage sizzle held in the luxurious Nth Turramurra BBQ area. Next time it is to be PeterD's turn.



Ryan wins his first Skins trophy.

20th June:

Ryan has completed two qualifying rounds just in time to hold up his first trophy.

was by Craig and held in the comfortable clubhouse function room. Next time it is a special catering event (weather permitting) with BBQ sausages. Note that we have nervously allocated bread roll delivery to PeterD.

PeterD moved closer the the 2009 lead as he dominated the skins today. The race for the championship is very congested with 4 players within 3 skins from the lead.

Stix has returned from the dance to take his second skins trophy for 2009; except that the trophy did not show up for the second match.

The trophy now has not been seen for 4 weeks and the rumours are that the Pebble Beach ball has fallen off and PeterH is looking for some glue.

28th March:

Peter played very well to win 5 holes but unfortunately each one was for a single skin and he had to rely on a countback to take his first win of the year.

All players had opportunity to win and Kim needed to sink a putt on the 18th to take the trophy.

The stableford scores were not quite as good as the A and B grade wins 2 weeks ago.

PeterD won after the 17th hole was too narrow for all players. There was very little discussion on the width of the fairway.

On the 16th hole Kim chipped in from around 30 metres for a spectacular birdie.

The skins were very close today until the 17th hole.

On the 2nd hole Kim's shot was on route to the clubhouse until it rebounded from a tree onto the fairway in spectacular fashion.

He had a lot of help from the trees until he reached the 17th where he claimed a Mercedes on Bobbin Head Road after hitting a tree.

28th February:

Kim took his first skins trophy in two seasons with some fine play.

He gives credit to a golf training book he read the night before. The name of the book is confidential as it is a matter of national security.

Craig overcame some intense pressure to hit the fairway after 4 previous players missed.

Interesting shot of the Day:

Stix managed to loudly hit the bee keepers shed near two calm lady golfers. One said she wanted to scream but thought it may frighten him.

Of course, we know that if she was capable of a scream then she was still alive.

PeterH wins the first round in 2009.

31st January:

PeterH won the skins and the Div 1 stableford competition with 37 points.

The 2008 champion suffered a setback after making 37 points he lost the Div 2 competition on a countback: he hates countbacks.

On the dam 9th hole, Craig took a drop after hitting the dam and his next shot skimmed the water twice, hit the rock wall and rebounded 50 metres behind him.
