2008 Skins Champion.

Presentation:

Stix triumphed in 2008 with 95 skins and 7 wins. The trophy was presented at the Xmas round by PeterD.

2008 Christmas Classic goes to PeterD.

13th December:

This year we had ten starters in the annual North Turramurra Christmas Classic. As usual, the rules were set by Stix with three clubs plus putter allowed.

The Christmas Classic champion for 2008 is PeterD with one of his best rounds of the year. He proved that consistency and single minded neglect of golf catering will win out. The trophy was presented by 2007 winner: Hamish.

Won by Kim with a tee shot to 3 metres as he went on to make the only birdie of the day.

Longest Drive
(17th hole):

Once the professional long drivers had missed the 17th by tens of metres, Damian took the longest drive trophy with a 5-wood after the usual debate with PeterD over where the fairway starts and ends.

The Bradman Award
(for the most attractive century of the day)

The 2008 Bradman Award goes to James for some fine high scoring after the disappointing withdrawal from the competition by Dave. The trophy was donated by PeterD and presented by Stix, the 2008 Skins champion.

22nd November:

Today Stix has extended his lead to 11 by taking 8 skins in a field of six players. The final skins round is at Kooindah Waters on 6th December

The 13th hole again provided some excitment as PeterD missed a hole in one by 1mm. Have a look at the photo below.

Revenge of the Stix!

8th November:

Today Stix showed that he is far from a spent force and moved to a 7 skins lead with 2 rounds to go in the 2008 championship. We are looking forward to some excitment in the last round at Kooindah Waters.

The two Peters missed the A-grade stableford win on a countback and Stix missed the B-grade win by a single point.

Another win on the 18th green - this time to PeterD.

13th September:

Stix is now clinging to a 1 skin lead in the 2008 competition. Peter D took the fortnightly trophy from Craig on the 18th green by winning 3 or 4 skins with a par 4 on the hardest hole.

Stix is back in the lead.

19th July:

Only three players again for Saturday 19/7. In a neck and neck match where 15 of the 18 holes had a skins winner, Stix wrapped up the match on the 17th when Peter narrowly missed a putt that would halve the hole. The yearly race is now dead even between Stix and Peter D at the half way point in the season and looks like it will be an enthralling few months ahead.

Stix - carried over from 17th where no balls finished on the fairway (well the 17th fairway anyway).

Luckiest Shot of the day:

Peter D after deflecting off the bank on the 4th to within 2 metres of the pin after Craig and Stix had already put there balls 5m and 4m from the pin respectively with classic iron shots.

Rules:

Some confusion and debate over multiple drops from Craig on the 13th due to multiple obstructions in the back swing. Easier to demonstrate than explain.

Hole Measurements:

No further hole measurements although Peter D did comment on the excellent soapiness of the ball washers saying they were better than Castle Hill. Speculation was had that Wally was the person responsible but Wally confirmed at the end of the match it was in fact the green keepers that did such an outstanding job with them.

24th May:

A controversial win today as a free drop from a rabbit hole allowed Kim to take skins from Stix and then give the win to PeterH.

Longest Drive (17th hole):

Stix stole the longest drive award from Craig after his ball headed for the 18th fairway, rattled a number of trees and jumped back to the 17th fairway.

Luckiest Shot of the day:

Craig was the adjudicator for this prestigious award and he has given it equally to Stix and PeterH.

- Stix won for his shot on the 17th as described in the Longest Drive.

- PeterH offended all players on the 13th hole with a thin tee shot likely to clear the green and head into the forest. However, due to great skill and years of practice, the ball was slowed by tree branches and ran on to the green short of the flag and resulted in the winning of FOUR skins.

Matthew wins his first skins.

29th March:

Matthew would have taken home the skins trophy for the first time this round, except ... the previous winner left it at home! Also, Matthew and Kim showed that a handicap change is necessary. Luke has taken early retirement; the excitment was too much.

Craig also scored well and keeps improving while playing regularly.

We are proposing to have the 2008 Vintage round on May 10th or 24th. Please provide your preferences and I will do some booking.

15th March:

Today we had a high scoring match for a change and, for the second match, we had two groups including yet another member of the Dickson clan.

The rules discussion points were "Obstructions" and "Ball Unplayable" after Stix landed in an awkward spot near the 4th tee while playing the 3rd.

2nd February:

Today the round was slow and wet. Stix dominated the skins and moved to double figures in the first round of the year.

Peter Dickson bettered his handicap by 1 shot but missed out on winning the stroke play trophy on a countback.
